FHC Band Booster Meeting Minutes

 

Welcome and Presidents Report -- Kathy Oberlin

Past Events/Projects

·         Purchase of marimbas and vibes-- Mr. D said the new instruments sound great and the kids are very excited about them. The boosters paid for this purchase, approximately $42,000. Cases were purchased as well, so Mr. D said these instruments should last indefinitely.

·         February Artists Series --Jody VantHul said we sold 200 tickets for the percussion performance and 250 for the jazz performance.  She said the band made a net profit of $5600 this year. That is about a $1500 increase over last years' profit.

·         Forest Hills Band Festival--This was very successful.  Three clinicians came in and worked with the bands from all three FH high Schools.

Upcoming Projects and Events

·         2009-2010 Band Booster Board Election--Kathy said we currently have a full slate for next year's board positions. Nominations will be made at the April band booster meeting.

·         Jazz Band Trip-- Jazz band l and ll will go to Pittsburgh the weekend of April 24th, 2009. The kids will attend and participate in master classes and perform at the Hard Rock Cafe before attending a Pittsburgh Symphony  concert Saturday evening.

·         1st Year Band Camp Meeting-- May 6th.

·         We are looking for a parent volunteer to be our Shoe Mom/Dad for next year. This individual will clean up or make simple repairs to our used band shoes that are sold to students at the meeting on the 6th.

·         Band Camp-- The tentative dates for band camp 2009 are August 2 - 7. We will be at Central Michigan again this year. Mr. D said he was told that we could use the field here at FHC on that Friday for the performance.

·         Disney Trip--We are currently planning a trip to Disney with the entire band (and choir) during mid-winter break 2010.

VP of Operations Report -- Mike DeNeff

End of the Year Banquet--The event will take place May 15, 2009.  Mike said Carrabbas will probably provide the food again. She said we were planning on selling tickets again and would try to feed everyone as quickly as possible so they can move on the program.

VP of Fundraising Report--Lisa Shatney

·         Ad Sales-- We've received a total of $12,200 in ad sales; $5,200 from the February Artist Series and $7,000 from Bandtasia.

·         Old Uniform Usage/Fundraiser --Mike DeNeff said she would have pillow samples within a week. We are currently seeking seamstresses to help with this project.

·         Spring Flower Sale-- This will kick off again in May.

·         Dominos Pizza Fundraiser--Lisa Shatney is talking with Dominos now about putting together another quick fundraiser. Details will be available shortly.

·         Auction--Ashley Dowley and Bill Morrow are the co-chairs this year. We would welcome any and all ideas for auction items. We are also looking for help with set-up and check-out that evening.

·         Musician Notes in Final Concert Program--Parents, students and friends can purchase space in the concert program for personal congratulations or other messages. More information on this will go out before spring break.

Secretary Report -- Melinda Kozulis

The minutes from our last booster meeting were approved.

Treasurer Report --Brad Berkshire

Brad reported that we switched our account to Macatawa from Fifth Third. He said that this was a good move for us and it is working out well.  Brad thanked  Assistant Treasurer Andrea Keefer for making this such a smooth transition. In addition, he reviewed the Band Budget, Allocation of Resources, and Fundraising Summary. There were no significant questions or issues.

Director's Report -- John DeStefano

·         All School Musical -- Fiddler on the Roof.  Rehearsals have started and are going well. Performances will be March 26th - 28th.

·         MSBOA Jazz Festival -- Both the lab band and Jazz ll will participate in this. The festival will be at Lowell High School March 19th during the day.

·         Combined Clinic Concert -- The fourth annual clinic concert with Northern and Eastern High was a huge success. Kevin Sedatole from Michigan State University, Robert Spradling from Western Michigan, and Mike Gillan from GRCC were our guest clinicians. These clinicians were so impressed with our Fine Arts Center that they want to participate again next year.

·         Marching Drum Line Clinic/Auditions--The clinic will  be held April 14th-15th from 3--4:15 pm. Auditions will be on April 16th from 3-6:00pm.

·         Visual Unit Clinic/Auditions--The clinic will be held on  April 20th --21st from 3-4:15 pm.  Auditions will be on April 22nd from 3--5:00pm.

·         Leadership Clinic--This will be held April 27-29th from 3-4:30pm in the band room. Drum Major auditions will be April 30th 3-6:00pm. Section Leader/Field Commander Audition will be May 6th from 3-6:00pm.
