FHC Band Booster Meeting Jan 6, 2009
President's
Report--Kathy Oberlin
Past Events Review
Bandtasia - Carole Gillespie reported that our total profit (ticket and ad sales) for Bandtasia 2008 was $15,696.78. This is an approximate $800 increase over last year.
Bylaws - Due to several changes at the state level, it was necessary that our board restate and approve the following changes to the bylaws:
*There will be a minimum of 3 board members.
*Members and board members may participate in meetings by electronic or remote communication, such as email.
*Any funds distributed over $500 will require board approval.
*Board officers have no term limits (they must be elected each year, however) and they do not have to have a current student in the band program. This last note is not a change in the bylaws, just a clarification.
Percussion Equipment - The board approved the purchase 4 marimbas and 2 vibes. Cases were ordered with the rosewood marimbas; Mr. D. said the cases should extend the life of the new marimbas by 10 or 15 years. The instruments are expected as early as next week.
Upcoming Events/Projects
February Artist series- Co-Chair Jody Vant Hul reported that the event planning is going well. The print material will be ready this week. They are currently seeking volunteers for home school publicity and ticket taking. Andrew Spencer will be the guest percussion artist for the Evening of Percussion on February 23rd and Diego Rivera will be the jazz artist featured on Jazz Night February 24th.
Auction - Bill Morrow is looking for a co-chair for this event. The auction earned $5,000 for the band last year.
Band Trips - There will be no inaugural trip. Mr. D reported that fewer jazz festivals are available for our students this year due to current economic conditions. Therefore, he is looking into short trips--exchange concerts or master classes --for our jazz and/or concert groups.
VP of Operations Report--Mike DeNeff
We used a new local source for our girls' concert tops. Any girls that would like a new top, can try on a sample and order one. All recent orders for girls tops have been paid. We still have some outstanding fees for the boys. All boys renting a tuxedo are required to pay a usage fee. Tricia Heneveld is handling concert hospitality and that is going well.
VP of Fundraising Report--Lisa Shatney
Karen McCarthy presented the band with a donation, a check for $450 on behalf of Consumers Energy Corporation. Kim Banks reported that we sold a total of $7,877 in spirit wear, resulting in a profit of $1,500 for the band. Her goal is to have samples before and after band camp this year for the students. She discussed offering a band camp/marching t-shirt , in addition to the current Bandtasia T-shirt. Mr. D said we could continue to look into the possibility. Deb Glover reported that ad sales for the February Artist Series are going well. Lisa Shatney said we made a total profit of $854 in the Holiday Greens Sale. Approximately 35 kids participated in the sale. Mike DeNeff said she is still investigating incorporating portions of our old uniforms into a fundraising product. Kim Banks showed us a pillow that was created using portions of old band uniforms. She found someone who is willing to create a sample for us utilizing portions of our old uniforms.
