Band Booster Meeting:

Oberlin called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

- Bandtasia Wrap-up
Report-MaryJane deWaal reported a successful event: 1142 tickets sold for
the second night and 949 attended; 193 did not/were unable to attend the
rescheduled night (due to tornado watch), but only needed to issue $20.00
in refunds. Proceeds were $15,776.65; the event resulted in the highest
attendance yet; it was the second year for the K-4 contest with Pine
Ridge Elementary winning the marching band at their Halloween
parade. Everyone loved the
music.
- February Artist
Series reschedule – Winter storms caused the FAS to be rescheduled:
Jazz Night will be March 18, Percussion Night will be May 1, both at 7pm
at the Fine Arts Center.
- Forest Hills
Festival-Combined Clinic Concert was held March 3 at the Fine Arts
Center. FHC had three concert bands participate; FHN had two concert
bands; FHE had two concert bands; and Kenowa Hills had two concert bands
participate. Clinicians Phil
Hash, Director of Music Education from Calvin College; David Montgomery,
Assistant Director of Band at WMU; and Neal Schnoor, Director of Band at
The University of Nebraska/Kearney provided feedback. Boosters provided lunch for the
directors and clinicians.

Projects/Events
- New Marching
Uniforms-Negotiations continue.
- Õ08-Õ09 Booster
Board Election-Kathy O. reported that she continues to secure nominations
for the upcoming election.
Terry Popa and Sandy Guthrie will be vacating their positions
after this year; Brad Berkshire is expected to return from England to
resume a Treasurer role.
- Middle School
Conferences, Freshman Orientation-Board members have signed up to staff
an information table at the upcoming March 11, 13, and 17 parent teachers
conferences to provide current 8th grade/incoming freshman
band families with fundraising and other band information as well as
answer questions. March 24 is the scheduled Freshman Orientation in the
high school cafeteria.
- End of Year
Banquet/Auction-is scheduled for May 15 in the high school gym (the event
has outgrown the cafeteria). This year a Silent Auction approach is
planned. All prize considerations should be directed to Bill Morrow.
VP Fundraising Report – Mike DeNeff
- Music Education
Shirts-Kim Banks has taken over this fundraiser from Debbie Rashid. She
has used proceeds from previous shirt sales to order an inventory to
present to the elementary schools and upcoming concerts.
- Geezer Bash –
is scheduled for March 15 at Naya.
- Auction – Bill
Morrow encouraged more prizes be submitted for the upcoming banquet and
confirmed the intent to try a silent auction this year.
- MusicianÕs Notes
– Kathy O. reported on plans to try a new approach this year for the
final concert program – offering ads for purchase by band families,
with proceeds going to Band Boosters.
- Escrip-Updated
information will be posted on the FHC Bands website for band families to
participate in Forest Hills Foods escrip program with designated (#35992)
funds going to individual band student music accounts.
- Scrip-Parents/band
families encouraged to participate in this gift card program which
benefits student music accounts.

- Spring Flower Sale
– Andrea Keefer to help co-chair this coupon-based upcoming
fundraiser.
Secretary Report – Debbie Rashid
- Minutes for the last
meeting will be presented for approval at the April Booster Meeting.
Treasurer Report – Terry Popa
- Terry reported a
Bandtasia/Ad Sales deposit; payments made to CMU for last yearÕs band
camp, and to CarrabaÕs for last yearÕs banquet; and monies noted for
purchase of percussion equipment. Terry also reported an upcoming CD to
mature early March.
DirectorÕs Report-Mr. DeStefano
- FAS reschedule
dates-Jazz Night with Wycliffe Gordon March 18, and Percussion Night with
Steve Houghton will be May 1, both 7pm at FAC.
- Chara Svann trumpet
player from Calvin College welcomed as student teacher for spring.
- All School Musical
Annie, March 27-29; pit rehearsals started.
- MSBOA State Solo and
Ensemble, March 15 at Portage North High School; some difficulty securing
accompanists.
- Combined Clinic
Concert – all groups played very well.
- Marching Drumline
Clinic/Auditions – April 15-16, 3-4:15pm; auditions 17th
from 3-6pm.
- Visual Unit
Clinic/Auditions- April 21-22 from 3-4:15pm; auditions 23rd
from 3-5pm.
- Leadership Clinic
– April 28-29 from 3-4:30pm in bandroom. Drum Major Auditions April
30 from 3-6pm. Section Leader/Field Commander Audition on May 6, 3-6pm.
- Next Year Marching
Band Show Õ08-Õ09 season planned to feature Earth, Wind & Fire.
- New York New York
– planning stages for a spring trip to NY will all bands.
