FHC Band Boosters Minutes

Band Music Booster Meeting:

Kathy Oberlin called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

 

Presidents Report – Kathy Oberlin

á       Past Events Review

o   Bandtasia Wrap-up Report-Mary Jane deWaal, Carol Gillespie

We do not have final numbers yet or the money. It comes from the district.

o   December Concerts- Went well; need more drinks, link on band web site for pictures.

o   Titus gift- We collected money to buy a brick that will be placed at the Fine Arts Building. We will ask the girls what they want the brick to say.

á       Upcoming Projects/Events

o   New Marching Uniforms – Waiting for District to determine the Budget amount for uniforms.  The Band Directors will have chosen 3 uniforms to pick from.

o   February Artist Series – Mark Oberlin and Diane Peneycad.  We have Feb 11 Steve Houghton and Feb 12 Wycliffe Gordon, dates are Monday February 11 and Tuesday, February 12   Mark has sent flyers to Retirement Communities. We need people to send out the posters to other locations

 

VP Operations Report – Sandy Guthrie

á       Concert Attire- We used Tuxedoes and Black suits. Not enough Tuxedoes to go around.  Everyone said the band looked good.

á       Hospitality – December Concerts-We had enough cookies. Will need more drinks after the concerts.

 

VP Fundraising Report Mike DeNeff

             *    Ad Sales – David Szidik-We have 2 new ads for February. We are at $13,000.

á       Holiday Greens Fundraiser Results- We doubled last yearŐs sales. $622 went to studentŐs accounts, $218 to Band Boosters for a total of $1,456.

á       Cell phone/ink cartridge Fundraiser Status-  Mike has a full box and will be sending that in soon.

á       Music Education Shirts – Debbie stated that we sold 177 shirts. With another order waiting to be processed. We are going to sell at the Middle Schools and elementary schools. This fundraiser has been turned over to Kim Banks.

á       Geezer Bash- Two years ago the Band Booster made $1.000. Last year was cancelled. We are looking at March 14 or 15 to host the event.

á       Auction – Bill Morrow will head this up.  Will be held at the end of the year banquet.

á       Personal Ads in final Concert Program – Parents can buy an ad to put in the

program/similar to ads in the year book.

             *   CulvertŐs Night- Lots of discussion, do this in May or August? We would like the             

Jazz band to play outside. Weather is the major concern and month that is less busy for parents. We want a good turn out.

              

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Secretary Report Debbie Rashid

á       Approve Minutes for November 6, 2007, Mr. D approved and seconded by Sandy Guthrie.

 

Treasurer Report – Terry Popa

á       Financial Update, see attached report. Just received the Central Michigan bill for last year band camp, $52,000.

 

 

Directors Report-

Mr. D thanked the Executive board for keeping things on track. Thanked all the parents who help with the band program.

MSBOA & Ensemble Jan 19 2008

The band students have to sign up to play at 3 menŐs basketball games and girls basketball games.

The directors are doing pit sign-ups for Annie.

25% of the band students take private lessons. They would like to see this higher.

Bands- Concert bands are going to do a clinic March 3. Northern and Eastern will participate.

Trying to get Wind Ensemble to a local college in March, MSU, Western & GRCC, Calvin. They are looking at these colleges.

Travel is difficult. Looking at New York next year. Looking at Purdue for next year.

Jan. 19th – Solo/Ensemble at East Kentwood HS (all day)

Feb. 11th – Evening of Percussion at FAC. 7 pm

Feb. 12th – Jazz Night at FAC, 7 pm

March 3rd – Forest Hills Band Festival at FAC (all day)

March 4th – Next Band Booster Meeting in band room 7 pm
