FHC BAND BOOSTER MEETING MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 20, 2007

WELCOME: Kathy Oberlin opened the meeting and had everyone introduce themselves.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT-KATHY OBERLIN:

Past Events Review

*Band Camp-Very successful. Sign up will be at end of year in May. Changes to check in, everyone

must be paid in full prior to going to camp. Suggestion to schedule more activities for students while attending camp, to lessen idle time.

*Kickoff-Do we want this to be a larger event (more food)? Invite Middle Schools. Have kickoff

one week later.

*Um Leadership- Twelve students attended in addition to the directors.

*Jim Hill Band Photos-Photo shoot was organized very well. Picture taken from highest point possible. Consideration for next year – take the group/whole band photo from the air/plane.

Upcoming Projects/Events

*Patron Letter- Letter will go out Oct 1 and to just Band/Alumni/Previous Donors, about 300.

This letter will be separate from choir and orchestra.

*Knight-time Classic-We needed 8 chaperons, now we need only one.

*Homecoming parade/dinner/game-Kathy Mason will organize the dinner. Call time of 3:45

Parade begins 4:30, dinner approximately 5:30, and band student’s line up for pre-game at 6:25

game starts at 7:30.

*MSBOA Marching Festival-Tuesday, Oct 9^th at East Kentwood High School.

VP OPERATIONS REPORT-SANDY GUTHRIE:

*Uniforms-Marching- Carol Shapiro/Pat Popa-Still is the discussion stages on timeline and the financing of the uniforms.

*Concert Uniforms-Need a Chair-Tuxedos need to be inventoried for condition, do we have enough

for the students? Kathy Johnson will still do the girls black tops.

*Hospitality-Andrea Keefer(Carol Aaron-water)- we are all set with ½ time snacks and water.

*Photos-Greg Good-Video-Steve Germand- They both are doing an amazing job. Thanks

VP FUNDRAISING REPORT- MIKE DENEFF:

*Bandtasia-Mary Jane deWaal. Carol Gillespie-Boards are at each school. There are only 7 posters left to sell.

*Script-Mary Woodworth-Not at the meeting. Info is on the Band Web site.

*Spring Flower Sale- Sandy Guthrie-Romence Gardens sale-net $686.09, all to student accounts.

*Cookie Dough-55 students participated. No V unit participation. Sale grossed $3,503; students

accounts $1,212 , Janie’s $1,753.05, boosters $537.95. This was ½ of last year.

*Key Card Sale-Sue McKeeby- Due Sept. 21, $5 for each card sold to students account.

*Go Green Recycle Program-Monies will go into boosters account only, old cell phones, no computer monitors, you can take them to Goodwill.

*Ad Sales-David Szidik-Sent out 125 letters to past advertisers, 19 ads = $3,625.Deadline is

Oct 1.

*February Artist Series- Mark Oberlin, needs one more chair.

New Idea- Yard signs and bags you can put your arms in to show at the games. Kim will look into printing and costs.

SECRETARY REPOR-DEBBIE RASHD:

Debbie Rashid presented the April 17, 2007 minutes for approval, motion by Sue Perry and

Seconded by Cindy.

Treasurer’s Report – (Terry Popa)

Due to Brad Berkshire’s plans to move, the Assistant Treasurer position is open. See Kathy Oberlin if you, or someone you know, are interested in the position, or if you need additional information.

Terry presented the 2007-8 budget, noting in particular the planned allocation of $11,300 for new uniforms, and $8,550 for instruments, in addition to reviewing fundraising progress to date. A motion to approve the 2007-8 budget was made and seconded.

Director’s Report – (Mr. DeStefano)

The band is off to a good year; band camp was a success – the drills were learned and the band continues to work hard and show improvement.

The Knight-Time Classic Marching Competition is set for September 29; fifteen bands are expected to compete.

Homecoming is October 5.

The MSBOA Marching Festival is scheduled for October 9 at East Kentwood High School, 8-9:30pm

Bandtasia Rehearsal is October 15; with performances October 16 and 18.

The next meeting will be held November 6.
