GENERAL MEETING NOTES

September 18, 2006

Music Booster Meeting:

LuAnn VanHaren introduced herself and welcomed everyone to the Meeting. She described that normally we have a general music meeting with the orchestra and choir but because of the short notice of this meeting they were not available.

LuAnn said this is the chance for members to meet others, learn about the group and have a say in what happens in band.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING NOTES

President’s Report (LuAnn Van Haren)

Patron Letters – Sally Wallington reported all the letters were sent and are due back Sept. 23rd in order to have your name appear in the Bandtasia program.

Spirit Helpers – Larry Banks has volunteered to put out the signs for the home games.

Chaperones – 8 adults are needed to help with MSBOA at East Kentwood, Tuesday 10/10, 8:30 pm and the Knight Time Classic 9/30 from 11:00-4:00. Please contact LuAnn if you are interested. Uniform people are also needed for these events

VP Operations Report – Kathy Oberlin

Uniforms- Carol Shapiro/Pat Popa have done a great job.

Teri Allie will be doing concert uniforms. She needs help measuring the boys for tuxedos and the girls for blouses.

Historian – Noland Heath – has provided many wonderful pictures and will video tape the band as needed.

VP Fundraising Report – Sandy Guthrie

Cookie Dough – 1002 tubs were sold with $3,000.00 going into students accounts.

Keycard Sales are due Sept. 21st. There was some feedback that more time was needed to sell. Sandy said to get in what you could by the due date and send whatever is sold after that ASAP.

Bandtasia – Diane Peneycad reported all was going well. We are promoting the band program to the younger students by holding a contest in the Central elementary schools. The winner will win the band for their Halloween parade. The group was encouraged to purchase tickets immediately.

It was agreed having the 8th grade band playing at the Tailgate was a wonderful idea. SCRIP – Tom Cisler explained what Scrip was and how it is used. He also explained the Meijer Reward and E-Scrip programs.

Ad Sales – Kathy Oberlin asked if you are familiar with a company to let her know and she will provide you with a packet to bring to that business. 2400 people will see the ads. Blank packets are also available. More money is needed.

February Artist Series – Diane Peneycad is the co-chair for the jazz unit and a co-chair is still needed for the percussion unit.

A discussion was held concerning other fundraising opportunities. It is generally felt the band should earn money promoting itself through Cd’s or performing opportunities.

Sandy reminded us that all ideas are good but chairpeople are needed to make them successful.

Secretary Report – Sue Perry made a motion to accept the April minutes. They were seconded by Kathy Oberlin.

Communications – Kathy Oberlin announced the webpage has been updated. She also encouraged us to give her our e-mail addresses as this is the main source of communication.

Blankets and Stickers are available for sale.

Treasurer Report – Tom Cisler presented the proposed 2006/07 budget. There was a motion by Kathy Mason to approve and seconded by Sandy Guthrie. The budget was approved.

A question was asked about the proposed foundation suggestion made last year. Nothing was done because of some negative concerns.

The alumni letter was sent to the past 3 years graduates and the due date is Sept 23rd.

Directors Report – Mr. “D” reported Band Camp was a success and a thank you to all who helped and attended.

The Hotline is not working at this time.

The webpage is in need of someone to help update the information.

Bandtasia practice is Monday Oct. 16th from 3:00 – 5:30pm. No transportation will be provided to the Fine Arts Center. If you do not want your student to ride with an upper classman please contact Mr. “D”.

Homecoming is October 6th at 4:30, the same route as last year. We will feed the students after the parade and families are welcome to join the group.

Oct 20th is Senior Night.

November 3rd is the End of the Year Banquet. Families are welcome. The leadership group plans the event. Mr. “D” asked if we were willing to spend $5.00 – 6.00 for a Carrabbas dinner. All agreed.

Florida Trip – because the choir and orchestra are no longer going to Disney a land package can now be offered to those wishing to drive there. We need 173 seats to be filled on the plane, however if you are currently signed up to fly and would like to drive you can be put on a waiting list. If someone takes your spot on the plane you can then be released from your obligation and can drive. All students need to be there by 3:00 pm Friday, Feb. 16th and will not be released back to the family until Wednesday, Feb 21st. If you wish to extend your trip and not have your student fly back with the group, that can also be arranged.

We do not have the schedule of events yet.

The travel agent is Bob Rogers Travel. Speak with Todd or Courtney.

Mr. “D” would love to do a trip to Italy but we will continue to do Disney every 4 years.

The next meeting is November 3rd.
