BAND BOOSTER MEETING NOTES

Presidents Report LuAnn Van Haren discussed Board Nominations for Next Year. An explanation of the officers and chairperson committee members and their election process was explained. A description of each is available. Elections are April 18th. See Mr. DeStefano if you are interested.
The following chairs are still needed: Ad Sales, Hospitality, Spirit, Photographer and Script. See LuAnn or any officer if interested.
Recruitment of 8th graders: A table was set up during the 8th grade conferences by us to answer questions. Orientation is 3/28. Sue Perry and LuAnn will be available at a table set up in the cafeteria to answer questions along with current band students. Our brochure is being updated. Personal phone calls will be made in April and May. If you have any other ideas on how to recruit members let LuAnn know. Mr. DeStefano said the 7th and 8th grade bands are playing at a Rampage game and should go a long way in keeping members interested. Also, upperclassmen are being sent to the middle school to discuss band.
Surveys will be sent after Spring break.
Spring Awards Night is May 18th at 7:00. A discussion was held about where to hold the event and what kind of food to have. We expect 400-500 people. It was decided to have a reception following the awards in the auditorium consisting of just desserts.
Band Foundation: A description of the concept was available. The objective is to set up an endowment fund for the band. We were requested to ask questions and think about it.
Secretary’s Report (Sue Perry) Minutes from the last meeting on January 10, 2006 were available to review. The minutes were approved and will be available on the FHC band website (January minutes).
Treasurer's Report Tom Cisler announced we are well ahead of our projected budget and our expenses are down. New uniforms will be needed in 3-4 years and will cost about $100,000.00. Instruments are also needed. We are well on our way toward providing funds for that.
Fundraising February Artist Series: (Mary Jane deWaal) reported everything went great and all proceeds were up from previous years.
VP Fundraising Report Kathy Oberlin
Flower Sale Order forms will be on the website shortly. The kickoff is April 11th. Orders are due April 19th and pickup is May 13th. Volunteers are needed to tally the results.
Geezer Bash is a fundraiser for the FHC band March 17th 7-11:30 at Centennial Country Club. The band, room and decorations have been donated. Centennial will provide food and beverages for a fee. The entrance fee is $10.00. Volunteers are needed to take money at the door.
Director's Report Mr. De Stefano reported the FAS was a success and thank you’s were extended to the chairpersons and volunteers.
The musical Peter Pan is 3/16, 3/17, 3/18. The pit has 37 band students and 10 band students are performing in the musical.
Solo Ensemble is in Hudsonville.
Sign ups are being taken for “Friends of the Band”.
Band Camp is Aug 6-11th. Sign up with Mr. DeStefano to volunteer.
Geezer Bash is March 17th. We are encouraged to bring any instruments we play to join in and singing will be encouraged as well.
The combined clinic with Eastern and Northern had top caliber conductors and instructors. The feedback was good. There is a possibility we could have the MSU wind ensemble next year to play after the clinic.
Drum Line tryouts are 4/11 and 4/12.
Leadership Clinic is 4/24 – 4/27. Drum majors will try out first and then sections chairs can try out.
The first football game is Aug. 25. Mr. DeStefano will not expect families to give up their vacations to be there. Therefore, we will probably just provide a pep band. There are 4 home games.
Next year he would like to have marching band practice 2 nights a week instead of going out during class time. He would allow the students to do homework in class the following morning. The current schedule prohibits kids from playing together as a group. Feedback is encouraged. Please contact Mr. DeStefano.
Next Meeting is Tuesday, April 18th at 7:00pm.
