GENERAL MEETING NOTES

January 10, 2006

Music Booster Meeting:

Luann Van Haren welcomed everyone to the Meeting. 1/20 and 1/21 our three jazz bands and the 8th grade jazz band will travel to Purdue. Thanks were extended to all of the chaperones attending. 2/9 is a percussion concert and 2/10 is a jazz concert at the FAC for our February Artist series.

Kelly Hubbard – Orchestra chairperson reported there was a successful concert in December. There is a candy fundraiser starting 1/25 and March 4th there will be a combined fundraising concert for the choir and orchestra at the FAC. There is also a clinic scheduled in March. It was also suggested by Andrew Poole that we have an informational meeting with the current 8th graders to inform them about the Disney trip and any fundraisers they could participate in.

Betty Belding – Choir chairperson announced there will be a concert and dance at the FAC called “Singsational with Strings”, March 4th. The cost is $5.00 pp with the proceeds being split between the choir and orchestra. Afterwards there is a dance for the kids with a DJ. There will also be a Choral Gala with Central, Northern and Eastern choirs and a guest conductor in April.

Presidents Report LuAnn Van Haren handed out forms with the current board and chairperson positions needed for the 2006/2007 year. All chairperson positions will be matched with a board member to help with any problems. Everyone is asked to consider a position and help out where needed. Call Luann with any questions and place all forms in her box located on the back of the music office door.

February Artist Series Mary Jane deWaal announced post cards advertising the event were being sent. Posters are available for us to hang in various businesses. “Take 5” will give our guest artist Michael Burritt publicity if they can connect and they are trying to get an article in the Advance.

VP Fundraising Report Kathy Oberlin announced the December pop can drive brought in $1,000.00. The next fundraiser is the flower sale. Order forms will be on the website for us to print off. They are due 4/19. May 13th is the delivery date. The pickup will be at the bus garage. Volunteer opportunities are available for both the students and adults. The flowers are being purchased through The Wooden Shoe greenhouse in Holland. Payment is due with the order. It was suggested we place order forms in the teachers’ mailboxes or send an e-mail district wide. The 8th graders will be involved.

Secretary’s Report (Sue Perry) Minutes from the last meeting on November 8, 2005 were available to review. The minutes were approved and will be available on the FHC band website (November minutes).

LuAnn also asked anyone interested in helping in the office to contact Sue.

Treasurer's Report Judy Cisler reported for Tom and said we are ahead of the projected balance and doing better than expected. She acknowledged that when general e-mail's are sent checks seem to follow, so they are good reminders. There are still come checks missing for Purdue. There are also a number of missing checks for the cleaning of uniforms and the purchase of concert shirts.

Director's Report Mr. De Stefano reported the dates for Purdue. Information is coming in the mail shortly. The February Artist series will feature world class artists. MSBOA is 2/4 in Zeeland. There are two campuses but they are connected. Times for the students performance is posted outside the office. The sports band has been performing at the boys’ basketball games. The musical Peter Pan is 3/16, 3/17, 3/18. Practice schedules will be posted after finals.

Friends of Band (FOB) are a new group being introduced that will encourage community members to become more involved with the band. E-mails will be sent when there are concerts and activities. Incentives will be offered to them such as special seating, concerts etc. Our goal is 500 members.

The Pittsburgh trip is cancelled due to the renovation of their Fine Arts Center. However, Mr. De Stefano will see if the Pittsburgh group would like to visit us.

Florida dates and costs will be available as soon as the district decides on the calendar for next year. It will be during Winter break of next year and cost over $1,000.00.

Mr. De Stefano is looking for a date for a winter concert at the FAC however, Festival is March 6th.

Judy Cisler announced Scrip is due 1/17/2006.

Next Meeting is Tuesday, March 7th at 7:00pm.
