GENERAL MEETING NOTES

November 9, 2004

Music Booster Meeting:

Mr. Urquhart was at our meeting tonight, so we would like to introduce him to our Board Presidents. Band – Lisa Carpentier, Choir – Betty Belding, Orchestra - Kelly Hubbard. Each President gave a summary of its purpose, fundraisers, past events and upcoming concerts. Mr. Urquhart then introduced himself and answered questions from those present. Some of the questions were about the new practice field that is going to be built. How funds are allocated through out the building. Any changes expected in staff or programs in the near future, discussion of the schedule and the 1st hour. There are no changes going to be made right now and he thinks that the schedule is fine where it is. He believes in the total experience of the student, with excellent teachers, parents, and students.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING NOTES

November 9, 2004

President’s Report Lisa Carpentier stated that we would like to give 250.00 to Eastern High School Band Boosters to help them start their band booster program. Everyone present accepted this idea.

Secretary’s Report (LuAnn VanHaren) Minutes from the last meeting on September 13, 2004 were available to review. The minutes were approved and will be available on the FHC band website (September minutes).

VP Operations Report Julie Dunakin gave a BIG THANK YOU to all involved in the marching season. The directors for their hard work, Lisa Carpentier for her great pictures on the bulletin board and website, Kathy Johnson on visual unit work, band camp chaperones. Vince & Lucy Hoover on uniforms, chaperones for MSBOA, parade, Jenison, helpers at the tailgates, Bandtasia volunteers, all the snacks and drinks donated.

VP Fundraising Report Kathy Oberlin gave a report on the current fundraising. Entertainment Books - 130 sold. Citrus Sale – 71 students participated with 6500.00 in fruit sold. This is down from last year. Some of the reasons might be, we are not going to Disney, less students in band, and the recent hurricane damage in Florida. Pick up date for Citrus is Dec. 3rd, Friday. Bandtasia was a huge success, with higher profit than last year. Upcoming event are February Artist Series. A Grant was written to have Grand Rapids Public School Students come for clinics and the concert. We are waiting to hear back. Volunteers are needed for that event. We are hosting MSBOA on Mar3-4 at the FAC. We will sell concessions for fundraising.

Treasurer's Report Vince Palusci reported that we are even or above last year at this time. We still have bills to pay, especially CMU. We have a long-term debt to pay off yet for band instruments. He also talked about need to put money away for future needs.

Director's Report Mr. DeStefano gave us an update on upcoming events.

MSBOA Solo and Ensemble deadline is Dec. 3. Event takes place Feb. 5, 2005 at Zeeland High Schools. Mr. DeStefano would also like to thank everyone for a great marching band season, especially all the volunteers.

Bandtasia Renee Rasikas reported that over 900 tickets were sold for each show this year. This was the first year the show was held at the new Fine Arts Center. The staff there was very welcoming and helpful. This was the biggest event held so far at the FAC. We had an increase in Ad Sales this year, up 1600.00. Poster sales were also up. The total profit from Bandtasia this year was 15,000.

New Business Apparel – Band Apparel is now on sale. We are selling black hooded sweatshirts, gray long sleeve t-shirts, gray pants, and black knit hats. The sale continues through Dec. 7th. For questions and orders contact LuAnn VanHaren.

New Band Logo We would like a new logo for band, to have increased recognition to the community and promote spirit. We are looking for a graphic artist to help us out with the design. We are going to have a contest for the students in helping with the new design.
