Music Boosters joint activities and interests:
Mr. Ivory reported that the FHC choir was successful with their "Night at the Hop." The choir is planning a trip to Boston and New York City for June. A Choral Gala with FHN will be held on April 27 at 7:00pm in the new Fine Arts Center.
Mr. Pool invited everyone to attend the "Spring String Fling" for orchestra students in grades 6 to 12. It will be held on March 30 at 7:00pm in the FHC Auditorium..
BAND BOOSTER MEETING NOTES
March 9, 2004
President’s Report: Lisa Carpentier thanked all of the parents who have given time to volunteer as chaperones. Parents have spent many hours with the group at Disney World, Jazz and MSBOA Festivals. Volunteers were also thanked for their work on the February Artist Series. The vote for the Band Booster Board for 2004-2005 has been postponed until the April 20 meeting. The band students have donated $500 toward the new Fine Arts Center. The boosters will match their donation for a total of $1000. Two large side by side blocks for an inside wall will be purchased in the new Fine Arts Center. Band booster members were at the CMS parent teacher conferences to give out information to parents about high school band. The band booster board plans to call all the eighth grade parents and to attend Freshmen Orientation on March 29
Vice President’s Operations Report: The band booster brochure has been updated. Everyone is encouraged to sign up to chaperone for Band Camp. Band Camp will be August 8-13 at Central Michigan University.
Vice-President's Fundraising Report: Jane Streb reported that the February Artist Series was a success. About $3000 was raised between the two nights. A fundraising policy subcommittee has been formed.
D & W days will be held March 15-17.
Secretary’s Report: Julie Dunakin presented the January meeting minutes. The minutes were approved, see web site (FHC Band Boosters) for a copy.
Treasurer’s Report: June Rudy presented a copy of the General Fund Receipts and Expenditures. Our annual budget is projected to come out in balance.
Director’s Report: Mr. Williams spoke about the group performances at the Purdue Jazz Festival The Jazz Band I students will perform at the Western Michigan University Jazz Festival on March 13. Jazz Band III and Combo II will compete at the MSBOA Jazz Festival on March 25. Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II will play at the Thornapple Jazz Festival on April 17. State Solo and Ensemble competition will be held at Hudsonville High School on March 27. A postcard has been mailed out to all students with fall marching band dates. Marching band leadership clinics are being held March 8-12. Percussion Clinics will be April 14-16. A video made during the "You're Instrumental" Disney Clinic was shown.
New Business: Eastern High School band program will be starting next fall. A band booster donation was discussed. The Visual Unit for marching band will be holding tryouts this spring. The directors hope to have 18-20 students involved.
Next meeting: April 20, at 7pm in the FHC Band Room.
