GENERAL MEETING NOTES

January 13, 2004

Music Boosters joint activities and interests:

The Music Department Piano has been repaired and it is sounding better and holding pitch. Technician will return to make final adjustments. Total cost is around $600 to be shared among all music booster groups.

Florida Trip: Mr. DeStefano presented a tentative schedule of performance and workshop times for the groups at Disney World. A finalized schedule and trip information will be mailed home prior to the trip.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING NOTES

January 13, 2004

President’s Report: Lisa Carpentier thanked Jean Lemire and Trini Nichols for their work on Scrip, Jane Streb for coordinating the citrus sale, and June Rudy for her help in collecting money toward the Florida Trip. Nancy Dorman has resigned her position as Vice President of Operations and will be replace by Judy Cisler. Julie Dunakin has been appointed by the band booster board as Secretary. Ellen Gravelie is chair of the Nominating Committee for the band booster board for next year. The band students have pledged and donated about $500 toward the new Fine Arts Building. The boosters will match their donation up to $500. A meeting was held with the middle school band parents. We hope to encourage middle school students to stay in band and offer our assistance to them. Chaperones are needed for MSBOA Band Festival March 3-6.

Vice President’s Operations Report: Judy Cisler presented information on the February Artist Series. Jazz Night (February 6) will feature John Fedchock. Percussion Night (February 26) will feature Paul Wertico. Both performances will be in the FHC Auditorium at 7 PM. Ticket order forms are available in the Band Room and on the Band Hotline (493-8963) after January 30. Tickets are $5 a person for each concert.

Vice-President's Fundraising Report: The students raised almost $22,000 in individual fundraising credits toward the Disney World Trip. Ads are being sold for the February Artist Series Program to offset the cost of the guest artists

Secretary’s Report: November meeting minutes were approved, see web site (FHC Band Boosters) for a copy.

Treasurer’s Report: June Rudy presented a 6 month summary of receipts and expenditures. Long Range Saving Plan was discussed. The strategic planning committee recommended saving money for future purchases such as uniforms and equipment. June is looking for a volunteer to help with Meijer Reward and Escrip questions.

Director’s Report: Mr. Williams spoke about the upcoming Purdue Jazz Festival January 23-24. The students will go to a DIVA big band performance on Friday evening and each ensemble will perform on Saturday. The February Artist Series was discussed. Everyone is encouraged to attend both performances. Students will work with the performers and play music written by them. FHC is sending 86 events to District Solo and Ensemble at East Kentwood High School on February 7. On February 17, a Florida Homecoming concert will be presented by the bands and orchestra. The 3 Jazz Bands have a busy season planned with performances at festivals as well as at volleyball and basketball games. Mr. Williams discussed forming a new committee to review our current fundraising policy.
