Concert Band - Open to grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Concert Band is a full year course which meets daily. Emphasis is aesthetic
education through strengthening of individual musicianship and performance
skills; knowledge of music theory and its application to playing; performance of
literature suited to the ability of the group; and listening and creative
thinking activities, including musical composition. Participation in chamber
music ensembles to solidify musicianship skills occurs during the appropriate
season. Private lessons are encouraged. This course focuses on developing
individual performance proficiency and overall musicianship.
Symphonic Band - Open to grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Director placement.
Symphonic Band is a full year course which meets daily. Emphasis is aesthetic

performance of literature suited to teh ability of the group. Participation in
chamber music ensembles to solidify musicianship skills occurs during the
appropriate season. This course focuses on developing individual performance
proficiency and musicianship.
Wind Ensemble - Open to grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Director placement.
Wind Ensemble is a full year course which meets daily. Through audition and
director placement, players may select participation in Symphonic Orchestra.
Emphasis is placed on aesthetic education through performing a wide variety of
literature, including marches, popular music, orchestral transcriptions, and
works conceived for wind band. Additional emphasis is placed on performance and
musicianship skills and building an understanding of the historical context of
literature. Participation in chamber ensembles and solo performance occurs
during the appropriate season. Private lessons are highly recommended.
Jazz Ensemble III - Open to grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Director placement.
Jazz Ensemble III is a full year course which meets daily. Emphasis is on
aesthetic education through improvisation and performance of suitable
literature, composition and arranging of music, and transcribing of jazz
performance. Attendance is required at all curricular and extra-curricular
events. This ensemble may participate in several jazz festivals from January to
March of each year. All members of the ensemble must be concurrently enrolled in
another instrumental ensemble or have director approval.
Jazz Ensemble II - Open to grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Director placement.
Jazz Ensemble II is a full year course which meets daily and is a follow-up
course to Jazz III. Emphasis is on aesthetic education through improvisation and
performance of suitable literature; harmonic, rhythmic and structural
complexities of jazz, jazz history and solo transcriptions. Attendance is
required at all curricular and extra-curricular events. This ensemble
participate in several jazz festivals from January to March of each year. All
members of the ensemble must be concurrently enrolled in another instrumental
ensemble. Membership in this ensemble is predicated upon director audition.

open to all students with a serious interest in becoming well versed in
percussion. Emphasis is aesthetic education through strengthening of individual
musicianship and performance skills, knowledge of music theory and its
application to playing, performance of literature suited to the ability of the
group, and listening and creative thinking activities including musical
composition. This ensemble has several curricular and extra-curricular
performances throughout the year. This course focuses on developing individual
performance proficiency and overall musicianship. Attendance is required at all
curricular and extra-curricular events. Private lessons are encouraged. All
members of the ensemble must be concurrently enrolled in another instrumental
ensemble. Membership in the ensemble is predicated upon director placement.
